Politics in Southwest Georgia

We will say how we feel, not be told.

The Spin of a Politician

Posted by Mike on April 13th, 2010

To the more gullible of our population in this county, the verbal spin that comes from a politician is like “a fly to honey”, they are attracted and unfortunately they believe it, until too late.  Take our Congressman Sanford Bishops reelection website, predominantly posted there on March 23, are a list of 18 healthcare benefits.  Congressman Bishop writes:

Immediate Benefits of Health Care Reform

There are misconceptions that the benefits of the legislation do not go into effect until 2014, leaving taxpayers to foot the bill for the next four years.  That claim is simply false!

With the legislation’s enactment today, Georgians of all ages, incomes, and backgrounds will benefit immediately.  Below is a list of the key provisions of the health care reform bill that take effect immediately:”

The congressman likes the word immediately, Webster Dictionary  defines immediately as: without interval of time.  Yet when you read the fine print, he clarifies his statements with such terms as, “Effective beginning January 1, 2011” or “Effective six months after enactment”, or “Effective beginning in fiscal year 2010″ (September for the Government) or “Beginning in 2014”.  6 months, 7 months, 3 years are not immediately.

He also uses the word FREE, in bold caps, Webster defines Free as: not costing or charging anything, or not subject to the control or domination of another.  I beg to differ, nothing the government does is FREE, cost is just taken from one person and given to another, done without their permission, and this is NOT FREE, I believe the politically correct term is “redistribution of wealth”

Misconceptions? False claims? or SPIN.  It’s all honey to the fly.
